What is the Hub?
A Community Support Hub (CSH) is a local gathering place that helps people prepare for and cope with emergencies in their area.
The Bridgewater Aldgate Community Support Hub, when open, is located at the Village Well Aldgate and is closely supported by The Hut Community Centre.
The Bridgewater & Aldgate Hub builds on the natural way people come together after an emergency. While some may need assistance, others will be ready to help. By encouraging community involvement, Hubs can help people regain a sense of control, which is important for both individual and community recovery.
We are located at the Village Well, 54 Strathalbyn Road, Aldgate. When open, you'll see our signs by the road.
Six facts about the Community Support Hub
What services are offered?
Designed to support the community during long-term power outages or in early recovery after a bushfire, the Hub may provide information and access to facilities, such as:
- Sharing emergency services’ official warnings and advice;
- Providing practical assistance (including social connection, refreshments, power, water, refrigeration for medicines and satellite Wi-Fi);
- Linking individuals’ requests for basic support with available community resources. We work with local government and state agencies to convey community needs and capacity to cope with the impact
- Providing impacted community members with information from government services regarding what supports are available
- Supporting other impacted communities
- Information (on the outage or disaster, advice on accessing support)
Who we are
The Hub is managed and run by local volunteers who build connections with individuals, community groups/services, councils, and emergency services to help understand local risks, prepare for emergencies, and support each other.
The Bridgewater Aldgate Community Support Hub is run by a small group of local volunteers who have considerable experience in building community resilience, disaster recovery, and emergency services, as well as working with Not-For-Profit organisations. Volunteers include representatives from the Bridgewater CFS, The Hut Community Centre, the Village Well, and other local residents.
We are building our capability by gaining an understanding of community needs, undertaking training, networking with other community support hubs, and collaborating with the Adelaide Hills Council and emergency services.
How can I join?
The Bridgewater Aldgate Community Support Hub is always looking for additional volunteers.
You can assist when the Hub is open, or you can provide valuable input into the planning and development of community preparedness.

The Hub and Preparoo
The Hub seeks to improve community preparedness. We do this by connecting with community groups and residents to increase awareness of emergency hazards and supporting preparedness actions.
We work closely with emergency services and Adelaide Hills Council to bring relevant workshops and presentations to our local community. Read more information here.
In 2026, the Hub initiated Preparoo as a competion that seeks to raise the level of bushfire preparedness among the Aldgate and Bridgewater communities.
When is the Hub open?
The Bridgewater & Aldgate Hub may be opened:
- After a bushfire in the area (when it is safe to do so)
- During extended power outages
You will know that we’re open by following the CSH Facebook page and by checking this website. Adelaide Hills Council and The Hut Community Centre will also be aware that the Hub is open and can share this information with the community.
What the Hub is not.
Importantly, the Hub is NOT a Bushfire Safer Place or Bushfire Last Resort Refuge.
It will not be open during a bushfire. See this CFS page to find your nearest places, and consider Safer Places when creating your Bushfire Survival Plan.
